TEOTIHUACAN PYRAMIDS, MEXICO – APRIL 20, 2026 Armed man attacked visitors at one of Mexico’s most famous archaeological sites after climbing the Pyramid of the Moon and beginning to shoot at the surrounding area. The attack caused panic among tourists, who tried to hide or flee from the scene of the shooting.

One Canadian tourist was killed in the attack and another 13 people were injured. Among those injured were visitors from several countries, including the United States, Colombia, Brazil, Russia, and Canada. Some suffered gunshot wounds, while others were injured during the chaotic escape from the shooting.
The man died after turning the weapon on himself following the attack. Police secured a firearm, a knife, and other equipment at the scene. Investigators later examined the motive behind the attack and the circumstances that allowed him to enter a secured tourist area with a weapon.
The investigation later revealed that Jasso Ramírez had shown interest in previous mass killings and extremist content before the attack. Materials related to the 1999 Columbine school shooting were reportedly found among his belongings. Authorities continued examining the exact motive behind his actions.
