MACEIÓ, ALAGOAS, BRAZIL – SEPTEMBER, 2008 In the Chã da Jaqueira district, a tragic incident occurred. Forty-seven-year-old businessman José Alexandre da Silva shot and killed his forty-nine-year-old wife, Maria Nazaré Lourenço, before taking his own life.
According to witnesses, the couple was sitting in front of their house on Rua do Sol 22, drinking alcohol, when they began arguing about a possible separation. José Alexandre reportedly stated multiple times that if the separation happened, he would kill his wife and himself.
On the same day, he followed through on his threats. After shooting his wife, he turned the gun on himself. Although he was transported to the hospital, he died en route.
The case was investigated by Robervaldo Davino, head of the 4th Police District. Officers from the 4th Battalion of the Military Police were also on the scene.
This tragedy highlights the severity of domestic violence and the importance of timely intervention in situations where similar threats are made.
