LIMA, PERU Incident in the Condevilla Señor neighborhood shocked all random bystanders. A nearly naked man jumped from the window of his 5th-floor apartment. Someone inside the apartment managed to catch him and hold him for a while, but he still fell after a few moments.
As it turned out later, it was not a suicidal act in the full sense of the word. The man suffered from a severe mental illness. Information about his health condition after the fall is not available.
The incident serves as a reminder of the seriousness of mental illness. Some people tend to overlook, trivialize, and ridicule them. In some parts of the world, it is even still a social stigma to visit a psychiatrist or psychologist.
