INDONESIA Footage circulating online shows a motorcyclist whose neck area was sliced by a sharp kite string. The man is in critical condition, bleeding heavily, and eventually loses consciousness. No updates on his medical condition or information about whether he survived are available.
Similar accidents pose a serious problem in some parts of Asia. In Bali, Indonesia, kite flying is extremely popular, and loose or snapped strings can stretch across roads. So-called cutting strings used in kite-fighting competitions are particularly dangerous. They may be coated with glass powder or made from strong synthetic materials, allowing them to cause deep cuts. While riding a motorcycle, contact with such a string can be fatal, especially if it strikes the neck.
Indonesia is not the only country where similar tragedies occur. Fatal injuries caused by sharp kite strings have also been documented in India, where the problem repeatedly draws attention from medical professionals and authorities.
The most shocking aspect of the entire video is that bystanders simply film the incident instead of attempting to provide first aid. With massive bleeding from the neck, every second literally counts. In such a situation, it is essential to call emergency services immediately and try to stop the bleeding by applying direct pressure to the wound with a clean cloth or gauze. However, never apply pressure to an embedded object or directly to the airway. If the wound is extensive, proceed carefully and follow the emergency dispatcher’s instructions. Do not leave the injured person alone, and monitor their consciousness and breathing until emergency responders arrive.
