LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM – SEPTEMBER 30, 2014 14-year-old Alice Gross, full name Alice Poppy Madeleine Gross, left her home on August 28, 2014, the last time she was seen. An extensive search was launched for Alice but she could not be found for 5 weeks.
Police arrested two suspects in connection with her disappearance. One was 41-year-old Latvian builder and convicted murderer Arnis Zalkalns. He became even more suspicious when he stopped communicating with the police and went missing on 3 September 2014. The police announced a search for him as well.
On 30 September 2014, the dead body of Alice Gross was finally found. She had been hidden under logs at the bottom of the River Brent. She was completely naked and her hands were tied behind her back. A few days later the hanged corpse of the main suspect was also found. Both were already in a state of decomposition. All indications are that he committed the murder, then failed to bear the weight of his act and hanged himself.
