KARAJ, IRAN – OCTOBER 14, 2023 83-year-old Dariush Mehrjui and his 54-year-old wife, Vahideh Mohammadifar, were brutally murdered in their home in the Zibadasht district. Both were part of the Iranian elite. Dariush was one of the most important film directors in Iran. Vahideh was a screenwriter and costume designer.

Their dead bodies, which had numerous stab wounds, were found by their daughter Mona. They had invited her to dinner at their home, and she arrived about an hour later. In the meantime, someone had managed to murder her parents.
The police arrested a total of ten people in connection with the murder. The main suspect was the family’s gardener, who had financial disputes with the victims. He was later sentenced to death. Three others among the detained were sentenced to up to 36 years in prison for aiding the murder.
