TELIBAZAR, BANGLADESH – MAY 3, 2026 Nine construction workers died in a serious traffic accident that occurred around 6:00 a.m. near the Telibazar Bridge. A pickup truck carrying approximately 20 workers on their way to a construction site collided head-on with a cargo truck loaded with jackfruits. The force of the impact threw the pickup’s passengers onto the road. Four people died at the scene and another four later died in the hospital. The ninth injured person, 50-year-old Ramim, died in the intensive care unit later that same evening.
Among the victims initially identified were Suruj Ali (60), Mosha Munni (26), Faridul (35), Nargis Akter (45), Badarul Amin (40), Pandab Biswas (20), Azir Uddin (35), and Amir Uddin (22). Azir Uddin and Amir Uddin were brothers, and both died in the accident.
According to firefighters, the accident may have been caused by the truck driver’s sleep or extreme fatigue, as their findings indicated that he had been transporting the load throughout the night. Some local residents claimed that an assistant driver was driving at the time of the accident. Police, however, said they had not confirmed this version and detained the assistant for questioning. The results of the investigation or any court proceedings have not yet been made public.
