Papuan separatists assault female captives

PAPUA, INDONESIA, 2024 Papuan separatists took advantage of the limited security presence in the village and launched an attack. Unfortunately, they were numerically superior and eventually managed to take control of the village.

Indonesian security forces were unable to evacuate all of the residents during the fighting. Several people, mostly women, were captured by the separatists and accused of spying for and cooperating with the Indonesian government. During a mass interrogation, the captives were subjected to severe beatings that amounted to torture.
