SYRIA Armed group from the Druze community was ambushed and killed on the Damascus–Suwayda Highway. This is a key road connecting Syria’s capital city with the Druze region. Historically, this route has been attacked and ambushed several times because of its great strategic importance.
The Druze are a religious minority with roots in Shia Islam but form a separate religion. The Bedouins, on the other hand, follow Sunni Islam, which they consider the only true interpretation of the Quran. In addition to religious disputes, there are also territorial conflicts between these two groups.
