SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL – OCTOBER 15, 2026 32-year-old Camila Pereira da Silva was shot by a military police officer in the Parque São Domingos area. Officers arrived at the scene after receiving a report about a woman who was allegedly threatening people with a knife.

According to the police account, Camila refused to put down the knife despite repeated warnings and moved toward the responding officers. 30-year-old officer André Coelho Maximo da Costa then fired a shot, striking her in the chest. The woman died at the scene.
According to a preliminary assessment of video footage, the woman was not making any apparent attacking movement at the moment the shot was fired, and the officers had the opportunity to retreat. André Coelho Maximo da Costa was detained on suspicion of intentional homicide but was released following a court hearing under restrictive conditions. The case remains under investigation by the relevant authorities.
