RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – AUGUST 30, 2025 During a military police operation in the Penha neighborhood in the northern part of the city, a man and a woman were shot and killed. According to preliminary information, the pair were inside a vehicle that patrol officers attempted to stop for inspection. A shootout and pursuit subsequently took place. Both suffered gunshot wounds that were incompatible with life.
Inside the vehicle, officers found a large amount of cash and several rounds of ammunition. The seized material was handed over to the homicide division, which will continue the investigation. Police stated that the operation began after the vehicle’s occupants behaved suspiciously. When officers attempted to stop the car, they were allegedly met with gunfire. No police officers were injured.
