LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, USA – SEPTEMBER 12, 2022 PnB Rock, whose real name was Rakim Hasheem Allen, was a 30-year-old American rapper, singer, and songwriter from Philadelphia. He became best known for his single “Selfish,” which reached the Billboard Hot 100 in 2016 and later received a triple-platinum certification. During his career, he also collaborated with artists such as Ed Sheeran, XXXTentacion, and Meek Mill, and in 2017 he was included in the prestigious XXL Freshman Class.

On the fateful day, PnB Rock was at Roscoe’s House of Chicken & Waffles in South Los Angeles with his partner. During lunch, according to the indictment, a masked 17-year-old armed attacker approached him and demanded his jewelry and other valuables. PnB Rock was wearing jewelry worth several hundred thousand dollars.
When the rapper refused to hand over the valuables, the teenager shot him. According to the indictment, he first struck him in the chest and then shot him twice more in the back. He then fled the scene with the stolen jewelry. PnB Rock was taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation later led to Freddie Lee Trone, who prosecutors said sent his then-17-year-old son to the restaurant to rob the rapper. In August 2024, a jury found Trone guilty of murder, robbery, and conspiracy to commit robbery. In September 2024, he was sentenced to 31 years to life in prison.
