RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – JANUARY 22, 2025 Residents of the Campinho neighbourhood in the northern part of Rio were treated to a frightening sight. A man was transporting the corpse of an old woman in a wheelchair along Cândido Benício Street.
When questioned by police officers, the man said the dead woman was his mother. He said that she died spontaneously at home and he had been waiting for a day to take her to a funeral home. He was tired of the long wait, so he decided to do it on his own.
The dead woman was identified as Aurora do Nascimento Marques. She died at the venerable age of 100.
Although the police have still not closed the case, it is likely that the man will not be prosecuted in any way. The city of Rio de Janeiro offered him a free funeral, considering their financial situation.
