KAFR BATNA, SYRIA, 2014 Year 2014 was one of the worst years of the war in Syria. The country was fragmented and several sides were fighting each other, such as Assad’s government, rebel groups, ISIS, and Kurdish forces. To make matters worse, some of the sides were supported by foreign powers.
The war escalated into a humanitarian crisis, with fighting carried out with no regard for civilians at all. Entire cities were bombed, resulting in hundreds of thousands of civilian and child casualties. This triggered the displacement of cities and a massive immigration crisis. Migrants fled to Turkey and Europe in an effort to save their lives.
The boy in the video is one of many child victims of the war. He reminds us how war, not only in Syria, can be cruel and how pointless warfare is. He was hit by the explosion of one of the surface-to-surface missiles during the shelling of the city of Kafr Batna.
