Three Pahalgam attackers killed by Indian forces

SRINAGAR, JAMMU AND KASHMIR, INDIA – JULY 28, 2025 On April 22, 2025, gunmen attacked a group of civilians in the tourist area of Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir. Twenty-six people were killed in the attack. Indian authorities later said that three members of the Pakistani militant organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were behind the attack – Suleman alias Faizal Jatt, Hamza Afghani, and Zibran.

After the attack, the men hid in the mountainous area near Dachigam National Park. Indian security forces searched for them for several months and, according to investigators, intercepted their communications. Operation Mahadev was subsequently launched with the aim of locating the suspects.

On July 28, 2025, security forces located the trio in the Lidwas area near Harwan. Units from the 4 Para Special Forces, along with the CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police, surrounded the area. Following a subsequent gunfight, all three militants were killed.

Two AK-47 rifles and an M4 carbine were found near their bodies. The weapons were subsequently subjected to ballistic examination, which, according to Indian authorities, confirmed their connection to the shooting during the April attack in Pahalgam.
