Chances of being struck by lightning are absolutely minimal and comparable to the chances of winning the lottery. These three people have probably used up all their luck in life. They were walking on the beach when they were struck by lightning. A man and a woman were killed instantly. The third person was taken to the hospital with injuries.
If you want to minimize the chances of being struck by lightning, the best solution is to find a safe shelter (a building with a lightning rod) or a car that is safe due to a physical phenomenon called a Faraday cage. Try to avoid open areas and don’t even climb hilltops. Standing next to tall objects such as trees is not a good idea either. Do not hold any metal object, such as an umbrella, which could act as a lightning rod. But the best thing you can do is prevention – watch the weather forecast.
