LLALLAGUA, BOLIVIA – JUNE 11, 2025 When former Bolivian president Evo Morales wanted to run for president again, his candidacy was officially rejected. The constitution of the republic forbids serving a fourth presidential term. Nevertheless, this rejection sparked massive protests across the country.
In the town of Llallagua, protesters blocked roads and did not hesitate to use violence. When police tried to remove the roadblocks, the demonstrators attacked them with fire, stones, firearms, and even dynamite. During these clashes, three police officers lost their lives: 22-year-old Brayan Barrozo Rodríguez, 23-year-old Carlos Enrique Apata Tola, and Jesús Alberto Mamani Morales.
The protests are still ongoing, and the situation in Bolivia remains highly tense. Organizations like the UN have called for an independent investigation into the violence related to the protests. Morales himself has requested an international investigation to ensure transparency and justice in this matter.
