ORLANDO, FLORIDA, USA – MARCH 24, 2022 Tragedy occurred at ICON Park, claiming the life of 14-year-old Tyre Sampson. The talented young football player died on the Orlando FreeFall ride, the tallest of its kind globally. During the 130-meter drop, Tyre fell about 30 meters due to an improperly secured harness. His weight exceeded the ride’s limits, yet he was allowed to board.

Footage of the incident revealed that staff ignored warnings about the unsecured restraint. Investigations later showed that the ride lacked additional safety features, such as belts that could have cost as little as $660. Following the accident, the ride was permanently closed and is now being dismantled.
Tyre’s parents recently won a lawsuit against the Austrian ride manufacturer, Funtime, deemed responsible for the design flaws. The court awarded them $310 million in damages. Funtime has yet to respond, and the family must now seek enforcement of the verdict through the Austrian legal system. This case serves as a sobering reminder of the critical importance of safety in amusement parks.
