JHARIA, JHARKHAND, INDIA – NOVEMBER 3, 2026 28-year-old Jahangir, also known as Sheikh Jahangir, died in a tragic traffic accident on the Jharia-Sindri Road in the Upar Kulhi area. At around 10:45 p.m., a speeding truck struck his motorcycle from behind. The impact was so powerful that the truck continued dragging the man and his motorcycle for some distance. Jahangir suffered devastating head injuries, with his head completely crushed. Pieces of brain tissue were scattered across the asphalt. He died at the scene.
After the accident, the truck driver attempted to flee. However, near the Indira Chowk intersection, he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a street stall. He was subsequently detained and identified as Sonu Kumar.
The motorcyclist’s death sparked outrage among local residents. An angry crowd blocked the road, demanding that the culprit be punished and that compensation be provided to the victim’s family. The situation subsequently escalated when protesters attacked responding police officers and pelted their vehicles with stones. Police reinforcements from several nearby stations had to be dispatched to the scene.
The truck was seized by police, and criminal proceedings were initiated against Sonu Kumar. The vehicle’s owner, Manjeet Singh, subsequently provided the deceased man’s family with an initial compensation payment of 200,000 Indian rupees (USD 2,100).
