MEXICO CITY, MEXICO – DECEMBER 27, 2017 22-23-year-old (sources differ) Argentine model Karen Ailén Grodzinski died under circumstances that remain unexplained in Mexico City. Her case became part of a series of murders of young foreign women linked to the escort scene and the Zona Divas website, which at the time operated as a platform for offering escort services.

Karen was from the city of Presidencia Roque Sáenz Peña in Argentina’s Chaco Province. Before moving to Mexico, she worked as a model, dancer, and makeup artist. She moved to Mexico City around 2015 with the goal of finding new job opportunities in modeling and the entertainment industry. Later, she also began working as an escort under the nickname Danna Broke and offered her services through the Zona Divas website.
Shortly before her death, Karen reportedly expressed concerns about her own safety. People close to her said she was afraid of individuals around her and was worried about the increasing level of violence among women connected to the same escort network.
On December 27, 2017, Karen arrived with an unidentified man at the Pasadena Hotel on Avenida Revolución in Mexico City. Security footage showed the pair entering the hotel at around 7:50 p.m. Approximately forty minutes later, the man left the hotel alone on a motorcycle while wearing a helmet that covered his face.
Shortly afterward, hotel employees found Karen dead in room 214. Her body was discovered near the bed. An autopsy revealed that she suffered gunshot wounds to the head as well as stab wounds. The brutality of the attack led investigators to conclude that it was a murder, and the case was also investigated as a possible femicide.
The investigation initially focused on several suspects. One of them was actor Axel Arenas Reyes, who was arrested in connection with the case. However, it was later revealed that he was outside Mexico at the time of the murder, and he was released and cleared of suspicion.
Karen’s case was later linked to other murders of women working in the Zona Divas environment, including the cases of Génesis Gibson, Wendy Vaneska de Lima Cortés, and Andreína Escalona. Investigators examined the possibility that some of the murders were connected, but the exact circumstances of Karen’s death have never been definitively resolved.
