BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS, USA – MARCH 11, 2023 The bodies of three children – 3-year-old Julissa Quesada, 14-month-old John E. Rubio and 2-month-old Mary Jane – were found in an apartment in Brownsville, Texas. The children had been strangled, stabbed and beheaded by their own 22-year-old father, John Allen Rubio. Their mother, Angela Camacho, was also present at the scene and witnessed the crime. Afterwards, they had sex among the dead bodies of their children.
Police were contacted by Rubio’s brother, who came to visit just as the couple was cleaning up the bloodstains. The children were wrapped in black garbage bags and lying by the bedroom door.
A trial was held later that year. Rubio tried to defend himself by claiming he was insane. He said he suffered from schizophrenia and that his psyche had been disturbed during his childhood, growing up in a neighborhood filled with drugs and prostitution. He said he heard voices telling him the children were possessed by the devil.
Rubio was sentenced to death for the murders, which he has appealed to this day. Angela Camacho received a life sentence for her involvement in the murders. She can’t apply for early release until 2043.
