CHILE, 2024 Wildfires in Chile have already killed at least 100 people and burned over 3,000 homes. But these numbers are steadily increasing. Thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes from the flames.
Chile has declared a state of emergency in the affected areas, as well as national mourning. The interior minister says it is the worst disaster since the 2010 earthquake that killed 500 people.
Many of the bodies were found in such poor condition that they have still not been identified. So forensic experts have to resort to DNA extraction methods.
