BANGLADESH Video captures the public cremation of a deceased person on a funeral pyre. From the perspective of someone living in a Western culture, something like this may seem bizarre, but it is a completely common Hindu funeral ritual that is practiced, among other places, in India.
According to Hindu beliefs, fire helps separate the soul from the physical body and allows it to continue into the next stage of existence. Cremation itself is therefore not viewed merely as the disposal of the body, but as an important spiritual transition and a final farewell to the deceased.
