TBILISI, GEORGIA – JUNE 22, 2026 50-year-old Mimi Kazalikashvili died after being struck by a car on Tsotne Dadiani Street in Tbilisi after the vehicle drove off the sidewalk. The woman was walking along the sidewalk in the same direction when the vehicle hit her and subsequently threw her into a parked car. After sustaining serious injuries, she was taken to a hospital, where she died.
The driver, a Russian citizen, was arrested on the same day as the accident and subsequently charged with violating traffic regulations resulting in the death of a person. She faces up to seven years in prison. Her lawyer said the incident was not intentional and that the driver may have pressed the wrong pedal when pulling away or that a technical malfunction may have occurred. According to him, the driver did not flee the scene and remained there until police arrived and investigative procedures were carried out.
