VILLANUEVA, CORTÉS, HONDURAS – SEPTEMBER 11, 2026 Miriam Lorenzo, 56, died after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing the CA-5 highway near the city of Villanueva in northern Honduras. A security camera captured the moment of the accident. Lorenzo was attempting to cross the road together with another woman and a young girl after one of the passing vehicles yielded to them. However, Lorenzo fell behind the others and was subsequently struck by an alleged taxi driver.
The woman suffered fatal injuries in the collision. She was the mother of eight children and lived in the Dos Caminos community in Villanueva. The suspected driver remained at the scene after the accident and was detained by police during the investigation. The footage also captures the desperate screams of the young girl, who witnessed the entire incident.
