Young man electrocuted while taking selfie on train

RIJEKA, CROATIA – JANUARY 6, 2017 Two young men, aged 19 and 20, climbed onto the roof of a stationary train to take a selfie. In doing so, they got close to high-voltage overhead power lines, and one of them suffered a fatal electric shock.

His body was found directly beneath the power lines and was almost completely burned. The second man suffered second- and third-degree burns over approximately 60% of his body, primarily on his torso, arms, and legs. After three months of hospitalization, he was discharged in stable condition.

An autopsy confirmed extensive burns caused by high voltage. The case was classified as a fatal electric shock while taking a selfie on the roof of a railway car.

The incident also highlights the risks associated with taking selfies in dangerous places. The presence of high-voltage lines above railway cars poses a deadly danger even without direct contact with a conductor, as electricity can arc through the air.
