Her 31-year-old husband, Adrián Reséndiz Urbano, testified that they had quarreled the previous night over drugs. He said she was addicted and had no money to pay for another dose of drugs, which usually led her into severe depression. Insulted, she went to sleep in her room and was found dead in the morning.
Her body was taken to a local hospital where it was subjected to a forensic autopsy at the request of the prosecutor to rule out possible murder. The forensic experts agreed that it was a suicide, which closed the case.
