PHÚ QUỐC, KIÊN GIANG, VIETNAM – JULY 11, 2026 Tragic accident involving a tourist boat near Vietnam’s Phú Quốc Island claimed the lives of 15 Indian tourists. The vessel capsized shortly after departing Hòn Mây Rút Ngoài Island for An Thới Harbor when the area was hit by a sudden deterioration in weather and rough seas.
There were 32 Indian tourists and four Vietnamese crew members on board. After the boat capsized, the passengers fought for their lives in the water. Nearby tourist boats were the first to arrive at the scene, and their crews helped pull many people from the sea before rescue teams arrived. A total of 21 people were rescued, while 15 tourists did not survive the accident.
According to statements from survivors, the boat capsized within moments. Some passengers reportedly became trapped beneath the overturned hull despite wearing life jackets. However, this information is based on witness accounts and is not part of the official findings of the investigation.
Vietnamese authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the accident. The boat’s captain was detained on suspicion of violating water transport safety regulations. According to available information, the victims included employees and associates of an Indian company who were taking part in a corporate trip.
