RETALHULEU, GUATEMALA – OCTOBER 15, 2026 15-year-old Cristian Daniel Rivas Ixcoy was shot dead in front of a store. He was about to get on his motorcycle when two men arrived on another motorcycle. One of them got off, pulled out a firearm, and began shooting at the boy repeatedly.

Cristian tried to protect himself by raising his hands, but the attacker continued firing. After the boy fell to the ground, the shooter reportedly fired one final shot into his head, according to security camera footage. Both men then fled the scene. Red Cross rescuers pronounced the victim dead upon arrival. According to local media, he sustained at least six gunshot wounds.
The attack occurred at approximately 7:22 p.m. in Zone 4, near the entrance to the Monterrey neighborhood. Guatemala’s National Civil Police and the Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators and determine the motive for the murder. The motive has not yet been officially confirmed. Some media outlets have published speculation about the teenager’s possible links to criminal groups, but authorities have not confirmed these claims.
