VERACRUZ, MEXICO – MAY 6, 2015 Dead body of a young woman was found in a vacant lot in the Boca del Río district. She was identified as 16-year-old Columba Campillo, a student at Villa Rica School.

Her killers were never caught. As for the motive for her murder, there was speculation about possible revenge stemming from her family ties. Her family was said to be involved in the drug trade. But a purely sexual motive cannot be ruled out.
Forensic autopsy determined the cause of death as asphyxiation by a plastic bag. It was confirmed that she was raped.
