TERESINA, PIAUÍ, BRAZIL – SEPTEMBER 10, 2025 In the Angelim neighborhood in the south of Teresina, a man was murdered, later identified as Romário Duarte Mendes. Witnesses stated that he was sitting on the sidewalk with another man when a red car stopped nearby, and two men got out and started shooting without asking. Romário was hit more than ten times and died at the scene. The other man with him managed to flee and survived; the attack apparently was not aimed at him.
Police investigation revealed that the murder may be closely linked to drug trafficking. A review of his criminal record showed that he had several entries, including prison sentences, for drug dealing in the municipality of Floriano. The perpetrators have not yet been caught, and the investigation is ongoing.
