PILAR, ÑEEMBUCÚ, PARAGUAY – NOVEMBER 2, 2025 Technical worker was critically injured while working on an optical cable line in the Villa Paso de Pilar district. He slipped from a ladder while climbing one of the poles, fell hard on his back, and hit his head and the back of his neck on the ground. The impact was so strong that it even knocked off his protective helmet.
The victim is 49-year-old Rufino Agüero Fernández. He was taken to the Regional Hospital in Pilar and later transferred in critical condition to Asunción.
Criminal police were called to the scene to determine the actual cause of the workplace accident. The case is being handled by prosecutor Federico Solano, who secured as evidence the ladder, pliers, belt, screwdrivers, gloves, and other items from the accident site.
It is believed that the man did not properly tighten his safety harness, and the possibility of an electric shock has not been ruled out. The cause of the incident will be clarified once the expert report results are available. The case is under investigation by the public prosecutor’s office.
