KARAJ, IRAN In July 2011, Iran was shaken by an incident that quickly captured national attention. Rouhollah Dadashi, a well-known Iranian bodybuilder and one of the country’s most prominent strongmen, became the victim of a violent street confrontation in Karaj. During a heated argument, a teenager named Alireza Mollasoltani stabbed Dadashi, causing injuries that proved fatal. The entire altercation lasted only moments, yet its consequences resonated far beyond that night.

Mollasoltani was arrested and, after a relatively quick trial, sentenced to death. Because he was under 18 at the time of the killing, the case drew significant international criticism. Dadashi’s family, however, strongly rejected these reactions.
