HATTOGRAM, BANGLADESH – FEBRUARY 23, 2026 Devastating explosion rocked the Halishahar district in Chittagong, Bangladesh. In an apartment on the third floor of a six-story building, accumulated gas exploded just as a family was preparing their pre-dawn meal for Ramadan. The force of the detonation was so immense that it blew out the building’s perimeter walls and debris fell onto the street, which was captured by chilling footage from a nearby security camera.
The consequences of the disaster are tragic. All nine family members who were in the apartment suffered critical burns over most of their bodies and had to be rushed to a specialized institute in Dhaka. So far, the deaths of four people, including children, have been confirmed, and the remaining five injured remain in critical condition. Local authorities are now investigating whether the cause of the gas leak was an outdated distribution system or a faulty appliance.
