ORDU, ALTINORDU DISTRICT, TURKEY – FEBRUARY 18, 2026 Thirty-seven-year-old Sefa Yılmaz committed suicide directly on the grounds of the police headquarters. Yılmaz arrived at the station to give a statement in connection with a violation of a court restraining order against his wife. While waiting in the courtyard, he suddenly seized the service weapon of a police officer standing next to him.
Despite the officer’s immediate effort to subdue the man and snatch the weapon away, Yılmaz managed to shoot himself in the head. He succumbed to his injuries on the scene, and after the crime scene investigation, his body was transported for an autopsy. The entire incident was captured by security cameras. Police are now investigating how a civilian could so easily gain access to an officer’s weapon.
