Armed men storm bar and kill five in Colombia

SIMAÑA, CESAR, COLOMBIA – SEPTEMBER 13, 2026 Armed men stormed the Cabeza de Hacha establishment in the municipality of Simaña, in the southern part of Colombia’s Cesar department. According to witnesses, they arrived on three motorcycles, ordered those present to turn off the music, and then began shooting. Five people were killed and several others were injured in the attack.

The victims were identified as Diomar Gómez Cáceres, Edelmis Toro Guevara, Carlos Rodelo, Miguel Armenta Jaraba, and Milton Armenta Jaraba. Miguel Armenta Jaraba and Milton Armenta Jaraba were brothers. Among the dead was also Diomar Gómez Cáceres, known as “El Gordo” or “Tío Omar,” whom authorities described as an alleged member and possible leader of a Clan del Golfo structure in the region.

The attack occurred while other people were near the establishment, including visitors to an adjacent soccer field. Authorities are investigating a conflict between armed groups over control of territory and illegal activities in the region as one of the main possible motives. Initial suspicions point to the ELN, but responsibility for the attack has not yet been definitively confirmed.
