SILONIA BAZAR, FENI DISTRICT, BANGLADESH – AUGUST 28, 2024 7-year-old boy, identified by local media as Zafar Islam, was staying with his family at an evacuation center at Silonia High School during widespread flooding. When humanitarian aid was being distributed in the area, he went to a vehicle to collect a food package. However, while crossing the road, he was struck by a passing truck. Local residents immediately took him to Feni General Hospital, but the boy died on the way.
The tragedy serves as a reminder to all parents to teach their children how to cross roads properly and safely from an early age. However, education alone is not enough. Until a child reaches an appropriate age and level of mental maturity to correctly assess traffic situations and respond to danger, parents should maintain constant supervision and never allow them to cross a busy road unaccompanied.
