TRÊS BARRAS, SANTA CATARINA, BRAZIL, 2014 27-year-old Miriam Ricardo de Jesus Duffeck was found dead in her home on Francisco Jenzura Street. She was lying on the floor in a pool of blood with her hands tied. Her throat had been slashed. A used kitchen knife was found next to her body.
Her body was discovered by her husband, Carlos Welinton Duffeck, when he returned with their two-year-old daughter after picking her up from daycare. The shocked child witnessed the horrifying scene.
Miriam worked as a hairdresser in her own salon, which was attached to their house. According to the police chief, this was a robbery that ended in murder. The perpetrator reportedly broke in to rob the salon, thinking it was empty. But when he was caught unmasked by Miriam, he killed her to avoid being identified. Cash was missing from the salon register, and the house was ransacked.
