MESQUITA, RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – AUGUST 3, 2025 38-year-old painter, Jorge Luiz da Silva Marciano, hit a fallen kite-flying wire while riding his motorcycle. Unfortunately, the wire was exactly at the height of his neck and deeply slashed his throat.
Although his wife, who was riding with him as a passenger, was present at the scene, and a passing motorcyclist stopped, no first aid was effective enough for such a severe injury. He lost consciousness within moments due to excessive blood loss and died.
The accident happened on the busy Via Light road, between the cities of Mesquita and Nilópolis, in the Baixada Fluminense region.
Police investigation found that it was an illegal type of wire, which was highly abrasive. It was probably coated with glass powder. These types are used in kite fights, where one string can cut through another. Their use is illegal precisely for these reasons.
