ROLÂNDIA, PARANÁ, BRAZIL – AUGUST 8, 2025 Body of a 52-year-old Brazilian woman identified as Sidneia José de Santana de Azevedo was found by a fisherman in a local waterway. Because she was partially mutilated, it was initially suspected that she had been a victim of violence. Later, however, it was revealed that she had been postmortem bitten by piranhas. Her face, right arm, and right leg were eaten down to the bone.
Forensic experts found no signs of violence on her body. It is assumed that she accidentally drowned in the river. Official police investigation results are still not available.
