KOSTIANTYNIVKA, DONETSK REGION, UKRAINE – SEPTEMBER 6, 2022 Kostiantynivka is located in the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine and, since the beginning of the Russian invasion in 2022, it has found itself in an extremely unfavorable position. The city lies only a few dozen kilometers from the active front line and has gradually become an important rear and logistical center of Ukrainian defense in the region. Due to its location, however, it is also constantly exposed to artillery and missile attacks, which makes it one of the long-term threatened places in Donbas.
On September 6, 2022, a series of Russian attacks took place in the Kostiantynivka area, which were part of a wider wave of shelling in the Donetsk region. According to reports from the Ukrainian General Staff, Russian forces struck the city with missiles in several attacks during the day, involving a combination of strikes on military and civilian targets in the region. At that time, intense fighting was taking place in the area and Kostiantynivka was one of the places that was repeatedly exposed to fire due to its proximity to the front line and its strategic importance for supplying Ukrainian units.
