CAMPINAS, SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL – AUGUST 25, 2026 Attempted robbery at a pharmacy ended in a shootout with military police. During patrol, officers noticed suspicious activity inside the business and discovered that a robbery was in progress.
According to police, the suspect was armed with a .38-caliber revolver and threatened to shoot at the officers during the intervention. A shooting followed, during which the man was shot. Emergency responders attempted to treat him, but he succumbed to his injuries.
According to later information, the man had been holding three employees hostage inside the pharmacy. Police recovered his revolver at the scene, as well as the firearms of the responding officers. The case is being investigated by civilian police, who are tasked with determining the exact circumstances of the shootout.
