According to the investigation, Vanessa ended the relationship, which Gleyson refused to accept. In the following period, he was said to have been stalking and harassing her. On the critical day, the couple met at a motel in the city of Santo Antônio, where an argument took place that quickly turned into a violent attack.

During the incident, Vanessa was assaulted and repeatedly struck with a wooden stick, causing fatal injuries. Motel staff heard screaming and immediately called the police. They arrived at the scene and detained the perpetrator directly at the crime scene.
The investigation showed that Gleyson was in a highly agitated state at the time of the attack, and the conflict allegedly arose due to jealousy and the breakup. Some testimonies also claimed that another man may have been present in the motel, who got involved accidentally and fled the scene during the escalation of violence.
After being detained, Gleyson Alex de Araújo Galvão was charged with murder. He was subsequently dismissed from the military police and in 2018 sentenced to 20 years in prison for committing the crime.
