CHINA When the woman failed to show up for check-out and did not answer the phone, hotel staff were forced to enter her hotel room. They found her dead on the bed and immediately called the police to the scene.
Investigators conducted an initial search of the hotel room and her body. At first glance, it was obvious that she had been murdered. A strangulation groove can be seen on her neck. The strangulation theory is supported by the presence of blood in the whites of her eyes.
On her back, livor mortis can be observed, caused by the accumulation of blood due to gravity. The presence of livor mortis greatly assists investigators in determining the time of death. It begins to form about 20 minutes after death, but is most pronounced 2-4 hours after death. After 8 hours, the livor mortis is stable. After 48 hours, the livor mortis begins to slowly disappear under normal conditions.
