Two cooks carry a large pot full of hot soup. But one of them slips and knocks the whole pot over. She survives, but the consequences are very painful for her.
Her first reaction is absolutely correct as she removes her clothes soaked in hot liquid. If something similar happens to you, or you witness it, it is important not to apply anything to the burned areas or cool them with ice water. It could impair healing and risk infection. Do not dress the burns with anything, but call the emergency services to the scene as soon as possible. In the meantime, monitor the victim’s condition. Should it worsen and you observe shock (rapid breathing, pallor, cold sweat, unconsciousness), lay the casualty on his back and lift his legs up.
