BEREVO, BELO-SUR-TSIRIBIHINA, MADAGASCAR While a group of children was playing in the Tsiribihina River, a Nile crocodile attacked them. Most of the children managed to get out of the water, but one boy was not so lucky. He was dragged underwater by the crocodile and drowned. Local residents gathered at the scene, but no one dared enter the water, witnessing the crocodile repeatedly attacking his already lifeless body.
According to all available reports, the crocodile was captured and killed so that the boy’s body could be retrieved from its stomach for a proper burial. Although this species is strictly protected in Madagascar, local authorities can grant exceptions for capture in such situations.
