ORURO, BOLIVIA – JULY 8, 2019 Body of a young woman was found in a garbage dump near the town of Oruro. She has been identified as 18-year-old Silvia Machado Lizárraga.

A forensic autopsy revealed 15 capsules of liquid cocaine in her stomach. Initial thoughts of investigators were that some of the capsules in her stomach had burst, resulting in her death. However, none of the capsules were damaged and there were no traces of cocaine in her stomach.
A further autopsy determined the cause of her death to be mechanical asphyxiation. In other words, someone strangled her to death. The autopsy also showed that the victim had been sexually abused.
Her death helped police uncover a large criminal organization that was exploiting young women for prostitution and drug trafficking. She was lured in by her classmate Jessica Ch. C. When the police arrested her, she at first tried to pretend that she was also a victim, but underhandedly changed her statements frequently. Later, it turned out that she was involved in her death because she was a fixture in this criminal faction. Her job was to lure young girls. Shortly after Jessica’s arrest, several other men who were in charge of this organization were arrested.
The exact motive for her murder was never made public. However, it is likely that she attempted to escape after being forced to ingest drugs and was sexually abused. It paid them to kill her even though she had their valuable goods in her stomach rather than risk exposure.
