VISAKHAPATNAM, ANDHRA PRADESH, INDIA – JUNE 8, 2026 Serious industrial accident occurred at the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited steel plant. During routine work in the production hall for steel melting, the system for handling a huge vessel (so-called ladle) containing approximately 150 tons of molten steel failed. It tipped over, and molten metal at a temperature of around 2732–2912 °F (1500–1600 °C) spilled onto workers in the hall, causing an immediate fire and extremely severe injuries.
According to local authorities and news sources, at least eight workers died in the accident, while another six suffered serious burns. Some of them were transported to hospitals in critical condition. Investigators have not yet precisely determined whether it was a technical fault, equipment failure, or a combination of multiple factors, including possible issues with materials or operational procedures.
