SERIK, ANTALYA PROVINCE, TURKEY – AUGUST 4, 2026 When the minivan was starting to move, its driver failed to notice his 18-month-old son, Yakup Emir Şahin, while reversing. The child was in the vehicle’s front blind spot. He sustained fatal injuries in the accident, and emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
The local prosecutor’s office is investigating the case. The investigation so far indicates that it was a tragic accident rather than an intentional act. After receiving the body, both parents collapsed due to severe psychological shock, but their condition did not require hospitalization.
The incident also serves as a reminder of how important constant supervision is for young children, especially around vehicles. Before moving or maneuvering, drivers should always make sure that the area in front of and around the vehicle is completely clear and that no person is in a blind spot.
