BAHIA, BRAZIL – JULY 13, 2016 Woman lost her life during a shootout with police on BR-324. She has been identified as 33 year old Adriana dos Santos Silva. She was no slouch, but she did have an extensive criminal record. She was a member of a drug cartel and had been in prison for bribery in the past. Her husband, a soldier in the armed forces, was also involved in the drug trade and was arrested by police just a day after her death.
In addition to Adriana, two of her accomplices, Edson Domingues Reis Machado, 45, and Adeilton Gouveia da Silva, 30, lost their lives. According to police, they attempted to rob a bank in Guarajuba by blowing up a safe. But police arrived at the scene sooner than expected and a chase ensued along the BR-324 road, which ended in a shootout. About eight other suspects managed to escape.
